How are we all doing Maschine Masters fam? PTSD touching down once again, and bringing you guys up to speed with what’s fresh over at everybody’s favorite drum supplier The Drum Broker.

Up for my review today is MSX II- B ROLL STRINGS 2. I’m not gonna harp on about MSX Audio– We are all fully aware of who they are, with most of us here copping their kits for a while now. I am, however, sad to inform you that this is the final kit that they will release in their B Roll strings series.

So, ‘what’s inside this little bundle of joy then?’ I hear you ask. Well, let me enlighten you. Inside the kit, you will find the jpeg artwork accompanied by two folders labeled Section 1  & Section 2. I should add that all of the sounds in this kit are in 16-bit .WAV format. There are 89 files to be exact in the Section 1 folder!

There are violin stabs, phrases, loops and arpeggios. These sounds are bone dry and haven’t been processed at all. They all sound very regal, to be fair, and have been recorded excellently. Frills, falls, staccato and crescendos are all in this kit too. I liked these articulations. There is some great variety and I loved the sound of the violin offered. Don’t get it twisted-this kit wasn’t designed to replace your go-to strings library, but to simply enhance it! Think of it this way-food tastes good right? But, we do sometimes need to add salt or other seasoning to compliment it and unleash the true flavor.

I personally would use this kit in conjunction with one of my larger string collections to layer and add depth. Lets face it, you can’t beat the sound stringed instrument right? Strings have been a foundation, and are a necessity in most musical styles. There are lots of dope violin articulations here and in the right hands, with a personal touch, some processing, and care and attention, the possibilities with this kit are vast.

The Section 2 folder contains a further 39 violin samples. Once again, some great samples residing in here! If you are looking for some live-sounding strings to back your sessions, then look no further. This kit sounds magnificent, and just as good, if not better, than its predecessor. My only small gripe with this kit is that it could have been labeled a little bit better. I would have liked to have seen the titles of the samples clearly labeled with the key and the articulation type for ease of use.

But, that’s just my personal preference. Other than that, I was very impressed. MSX II as always, did a cracking job with this one and they definitely didn’t disappoint me. I’m a proud owner of a few of their kits and this one right here is tight and definitely a welcome addition!

MSX II B ROLL STRINGS 2 is priced at $24.99 and can be found residing with The Drum Broker. Once the product is paid for, you can download it immediately and get to work. Get yourself over to the site, grab it with both hands and get yourselves a piece of MSXII history!
