Marco Polo – Pad Thai Vol.1 Review

What’s up Maschine Masters? It’s Daysun Civil with another review. Marco Polo is releasing his collections of samples and drums entitled PAD THAI Vol. 1. I called this a sample kit because Marco’s giving us more than just drums. Rarely do producers such as myself come across jewels like this. Marco has set out to give us something different and inspire us to make some dope joints. Are you hungry for some Thai food? Then, let’s eat!

You should all know Marco Polo hails from New York and is a transplant from Canada. His music has provided the soundscapes for many underground and boombap artists. Marco has made a name for himself by crafting gritty and melodic songs using his trusty MPC 2000xl. Also, not one to be bound by one machine he has also progressed by using a plethora of other tools to get his unique sound. With PAD THAI VOL. 1, Marco gives producers a raw, uncut and vast look into his catalog. Why not, when so many producers are doing the same. Let’s look into the contents of this sample kit.

The contents of Marco Polo’s PAD THAI Vol. 1 has 2 folders of sounds. The first folder entitled “Condiments and Sprinkles” contains 9 samples which includes bass, sweeper, piano, saxophone, and guitar sounds. The second folder entitled “Main Courses” contains 21 folders filled with stems and one shot samples of drums and various instruments used to make songs from some of Marco’s grittiest work. The PAD THAI Vol. 1 provides sounds and samples from the musical backdrops from artists such as Masta Ace, Big Daddy Kane, Pharoahe Monch, Rah Digga, Torae and Large Professor to name a few. A few of the songs titles include Nite and Day, Nostalgia, 3 O’clock, and Rapid Eye Movement. Underground heads know the deal.

Marco Polo’s sound quality is interspersed all thought out this kit. Abundance and character are the words that best describes the sounds within PAD Thai Vol. 1. All the snares and kicks punch hard and the character of Marco Polo’s productions is laced on each sample. Each subfolder within the “Main Courses” folder includes a bass sample tone, bass stems, various kicks, hi-hats, cymbal crashes, snares and break beat loops to use. See, Marco offers more than just drum samples. He provides 20 to 22 different bass sounds.

Don’t let the cover of the album fool you. I happen to really enjoy the format of this sample kit. Marco Polo is very meticulous in the way he has formatted each folder. That same care is also in the sound quality of each sound. Great sample kit.

If you are looking for some great sounds to get you inspired then you need Marco Polo’s PAD THAI Vol. 1 in your arsenal. Those looking for more than just drums this is the kit for you. If you are ready to start sampling go visit the Drum Broker and purchase this kit for $29.99.
