Balancing Work, Life and Beat Making
What’s up MM Fam, it’s your boy Mr. Reb, wondering how do you balance family, work and beat making time? Most of us here have families (wives/husbands, baby mamas/daddies, kids, etc), jobs and/or school to deal with, right? My question is, how do you make time for everything?
Take me, for example. I work a nine to five, 5-6 days a week. I tend to my children, cook (most of the time) and spend quality time with my wife everyday. So how do I make time for working on my craft? I just do! I might sneak in an hour or so on most days, weekdays that is. Now weekends is another story, that’s “Daddy” time, period!
Don’t get me wrong , I may drive myself crazy at times. Like when i jump into a Maschine Masters Beat Battle, or when I’m putting a track together for someone. That’s when I feel like there isn’t enough time in a day.
My point is this, do what you love but don’t neglect other aspects of your life. There has to be a healthy balance. I’d love to hear how you guys handle this. Until next time, happy beat making!
Mr. Reb
It is tough! I’m married w/ 4 kids (10,6,4, &2) ! I work a 9-5 (630am-3pm)! I recently had to quit my church band so I can make more time for my fam & production. I’m very envolved with my fam and household! I pick my kids up From school, feed em, help with homework, clean etc…. So the they way I do is while the kids doing their homework I might start on something like choppin a sample or a drop pattern, then check up on their homework or if the wife preparing dinner I’ll be at my station cookin up beats. Or if my kids watchin a movie I’ll do my thang! Pretty much when every1 else doin their own thing at home I’ll do mine then we’ll come together and kick it! And on the weekends I go in! Esp in the morning times when’ brain is fresh! Saturday mornings are the best for me! Or late nights when every1 sleep!
I think you said it, if it’s important enough you just find time to do it. How many times have you seen an ad or something, someone selling music gear and they say – “got no time to work on it”? Well, that’s an example of someone who decided not to give it any time – DON’T BE THAT DUDE! I have 3 kids, am a very involved papa and only have time for beats after 9pm or sometimes in the morning, I just shoehorn it in when I can baby….don’t know if that’s the best way but it’s the only way for me. Nice topic, good to hear I’m not alone. Balance is important too, let’s not make any “beat widows”. Peace S
This is something I’ve been trying to figure out. I have a wife and 5 kids ( 3 year old daughter, 2 year old twin boys and another set of twins that are 6 monts now) and a job. Shits hard as hell cuz at this age they def need that attention. My best advice is a schedule. All my kids are on a schedule from the time they wake up and eat to a set bath time and tv time everyday. Because of this I have time to myself 30mins here and there to make beats an hr in between naps. It’s hard but ya gotta find time cuz there’s always that sample that needs to be chopped but there’s also that bottle that needs to be made. Balance is key. Far from and expert but I’m trying
