Mike Kalombo Klassic Samples Vol. 1 Review

Mike Kalombo Klassic Samples Review

It’s safe to say that we all use YouTube. When searching for beat making videos, or beat making techniques, we’ve all come across the name Mike Kalombo and heard his signature tag “Klassic.” With well over 200 videos on YouTube, and currently working with Jermaine Dupri for So So Def Records, it’s also safe to say the man has been pretty successful. To help others get to his level of success, Kalombo has released the Klassic Samples Vol. 1 kit through SoundPackFlyer.com. Packed with kicks, claps, hats, fx, and more, Klassic Samples will be a nice addition to your library.

As I always do, I went straight for the kicks in this kit. The kicks section is littered with many 808s to get many trunks rattling. Lots of variation in 808 as well from the klassic (see what I did there) long tailed 808 to the short and punchy. We’ve all heard 808s before, so it’s nothing surprising to say that they pretty much sound like most of our current 808 kits. There was one however (808 6) that came through my monitors in an explosion like Smokes fatality. The kicks on the other hand are well recorded and punchy. Very few of these leave you disappointed (Kick 34) and will find their way into any style of music you’re creating.

When previewing the snares I was met with one word, expressionless. While I loved the kicks in the kit, the snares left little to be overjoyed about. Most of these snares are recycled from many different kits (FL Studio stock kit and a Timbaland pack just to name 2). Another thing that drove me nuts is some of the sounds are in the snare section twice and different pitches (see MK Snares 1-7). Where the snares failed epically, the dedicated rim shot and clap sections shone! Between both sections you’ll have over 50 samples to choose from to fill the void left by the snares.

For you guys and gals like me that love epic transition drum fills, your prayers have been answered. Inside Klassic samples you’ll find an overwhelming wealth of high quality toms to build those epic fills! To help out with those fills, make sure you check out the FX section as well. It is literally oozing with awesome sounds to be used to bridge the gaps in your beats. Also included are big sections of hats, shakers, and percussion to fill out this kit.

For your beat making pleasure, Mike Kalombo and SoundPackFlyer.com (@SoundPackFlyer) have come with a nice kit to add your libraries. On a scale of 1-16 pads (1 being wacker than Braxton P. Hartnabrig, 16 being hotter than 2 rats humping in a sock in the Sahara) Klassic Samples checks in at 10 pads. Make sure you check this kit out for yourself!
